We will talk about this character in the context of the historical development of livestock farming in Patagonia and as a profession that represented a source of employment at the end of the 9th century and until the middle of the 20th century in Patagonia.
Sheep represented a great economic boost and at the same time, they became a very accessible food source for native fauna. Foxes, pumas and caranchos began to prey heavily on the herds, becoming a problem that they minimized with hunting. On the other hand, this hunting profession represented a livelihood during the winter for fencers, stallholders, workers and adventure fans. Furthermore, with the opening to foreign markets, they began to sell the skins of foxes, guanaco and later animals that became pests such as rabbits, hares and beavers.
